The Region VII Employer Survey is currently underway. The survey addresses the level of adoption of occupational safety, health and well-being programs among small businesses organizations in the Midwest (Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri). The organizational survey, developed by the University of Iowa Healthier Workforce Center is a 50-item survey instrument based on the Transtheoretical model of behavior change. The survey addresses organizational interest, implementation, and evaluation of health and safety programs as well as employer’s beliefs about the benefits of these program to their organization. Findings from this and previous surveys will be discussed as they relate to regional work-related rates of injuries and illness as well as regional health behaviors and concerns. This discourse is important and timely as small businesses employ a substantial proportion of the labor force despite limited financial and technical resources.
