The Healthier Workforce Center of the Midwest (HWC), recently entered into an Alliance Agreement with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Federal Region VII to address behavioral health, which includes mental health and substance use, in the workplace.
1) Create guidelines for employers to develop and implement workplace behavioral health policies.
2) Raise awareness of the impact of behavioral health in the workplace through Toolbox Talks, outreach activities, and other media.
Through the Alliance Program, OSHA establishes formal relationships with groups committed to worker safety and health, and collaborates with them to prevent
workplace fatalities, injuries, and illnesses. These groups include trade and professional associations, labor unions, educational institutions, community and
faith-based groups, and government agencies. OSHA and Alliance participants collaborate in providing workers and employers with information, guidance, and
resources to promote workplace safety and health and awareness of workers’ rights and employers’ responsibilities under the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
