
Communicate healthy eating tips with your employees in newsletters, emails, posters, and at meetings
- Have kitchen equipment available to store food and cook healthy snacks and lunches (refrigerator, microwave, toaster, toaster oven)
- Provide healthy food options at meetings and events
- Offer free or low-cost fruit or healthy snacks
- Offer free or low-cost breakfast items daily, weekly, monthly or on special occasions (yogurt, oatmeal, cereal, fruit, granola bars)
- Use point of decision prompts to promote healthier choices (on vending machines, in break rooms, in cafeterias)
- Offer lunch-n-learns with dietitians or nutritionists on healthy holiday eating, tracking food intake, gluten-free diets, low-sodium/low cholesterol diets, etc
- Coordinate cooking demonstrations that teach skills
- Challenges or games (increasing intake of fruits and vegetables, fiber, low-fat foods, low-fat dairy, low sodium foods, water consumption)
- Special events or contests (contest for best vegetarian, low-calorie, high nutrient or other healthy theme for potluck, soup cook-off)
- Start an on-site garden
- Work with vendor to change vending options
- If you have a Hy-Vee in your community, work with Hy-Vee Dietitian Nutrition Services for lunch-n-learns, grocery shopping tours and cooking demonstrations
